This comes to a total of $1262 dollars and I have harvested 82 lbs of meat. (About $15 per lb) Obviously, the fixed cost of the hutches and equipment ($623) will stay constant over the course of their life. The feed cost (and some minor repair to the hutches) are my only ongoing cost, so the cost is coming down. When I harvest the next batch of 15 rabbits (at about 2.5 lbs apiece), my total cost will come down to $10 per lb. Still pricey, but I’ve been able to bring it down substantially over the last year. By next year, I should be at around $5 per lb for raising them. At this time, I will feel better about the amount I have sunk into this.
