Rabbit Nestbox

It is now 27 days since the rabbits got together.  I made a nestbox out of ½” x 1” welded wire.  The dimensions are 10” H x 11” W x 14” L.  The front has a shorter height of 4” to help the mom get in and out.  Originally, I had lined it with cardboard, expecting cooler weather, but it looks like that will be unnecessary.  I made sure that the box would fit into the opening.  The one frustrating thing, though, is that I have been buying the premade cages from Tractor Supply.  These are about the same price as if you did it yourself, so I see no need to build them.  The problem is that they are always different.  One had 1” x 4” welded wire on the sides.  The newest one I bought has a 2” smaller opening, so I have to make a different nextbox for that one.  I don’t know what is going on with this company, but it would be nice to get the same product every time.  I then took the nestbox and added 3” of pine shavings to the bottom and then some straw (from my earlier wheat harvest).  This created a cozy little nest.  I did have to remove the little igloo that was in there, so I’m not sure how the bunny will react to losing that item.  However, it was getting too crowded if I left everything in there.  Now, the wait is on to see if my rabbit will give birth or if I had a false alarm.  I should know by the end of this weekend.
